The wahoo is a slender, oceanic fish with a body covered with scales. Jaws are elongated to form an almost beak-like snout; the teeth are triangular and finely serrated. Two dorsal fins are present; the first is several times the length of the second. These fins are followed by 8 or 9 finlets.

Ono is a Hawaiian word meaning “good to eat.” It is commonly known as wahoo and is a close relative of the king mackerel. Built like a torpedo, they are fast swimmers. Ono rarely school, but groups are often found around fish aggregation buoys.

No wonder Hawaiians call this fish Ono, which means delicious. It is also called by other names in other countries like “Peto” in Central America and the Caribbean. And in Japan, it's called “Kamasu-sawara.” Wahoo has mild-sweet tasting flesh with a firm texture, moderate fat, and large, circular flakes when cooked.
